How I fell in love with fashion.
I was never much of a fashion inclined person in my youth.
My impression was that fashion was just about
following.
Following and being popular.
So I kept my back turned on fashion.
I'm not one to follow trends.
Don't call me a hipster.
Until this year I never knew what that even meant.
But then my eyes were opened
by my best friend.
Her sisters had a set for making paper dolls.
Crafty individuals that we were,
We wanted in on the fun too.
And the more we created the more we explored methods for making them.
Scraps of paper.
Doileys.
Candy wrappers.
And the more we sought for inspiration.
Her older sister had a set of Teen Vogue magazines from her year subscription.
It was only a matter of time before we got into them.
And I came across this.
Comfy warm wool sweaters and old leather hiking boots.
Plaid flannel shirts and Mrs. Weasley like dresses.
(the Weasley family was my dream family at the time)
Thick wool socks pulled up to the knees.
Long loose hair and floor length skirts.
A connection with nature.
Traveling the globe in a camper van just like my family does on its vacations.
And the spirit of freedom.
Not conformism.
My original impression of fashion shattered.
And I fell in love.
